What is Enphase’s MID (microgrid interconnection device)?

The Enphase solution is the Enpower 200G. This transfer switch device is required for an Enphase system to operate as a standalone system if there is a grid failure. The Enpower is capable of disconnecting the house from the grid, while the IQ8 microinverters within Encharge create the off-grid AC signal. This process happens almost instantaneously, and you will not be able to notice the transition being made.

Generator integration (future/planned capability)

If you don’t have enough loads and you have excess generation, the generator power will backfeed into the batteries which is bad. The generator needs to be able to communicate with the batteries so it doesn’t overload them.

Enphase is working on developing a shared control mechanism for the Enpower to talk to the generator, so it doesn’t backfeed into the batteries.

Enphase is planning on releasing an approved list of generators which Enpower can communicate with.

Enphase is also releasing an Envoy Combiner 3C which has a built-in LTE-M modem to retain connectivity via wi-fi, ethernet, or cellular data. This is necessary for maintaining monitoring capabilities during power outages. The Combiner 3C features wireless dual band Zigbee communication for fast control between Encharge and Enpower.
